Elon Musk (born 1971) is the founder of SpaceX and Tesla, known for applying First Principles Thinking to industries that most people assumed were fixed.

When Musk wanted to build rockets, he was quoted prices of $65 million per launch. Instead of accepting this, he asked: what are rockets actually made of? Aluminum, titanium, copper, carbon fiber. The raw materials cost roughly 2% of the sticker price. So he started SpaceX to build rockets from scratch.
The same approach drove Tesla. Rather than assuming batteries would always be expensive, Musk broke the cost down to raw materials and found a path to dramatic cost reduction.
